Service

Sew Santa Barbara offers a full-service department.

We perform all your BERNINA warranty work when you purchase your machine from us. Sew Santa Barbara waives any service charges in the first year, except for excessive wear and tear or unfortunate accidents.

Sew Santa Barbara also offers charge-free labor for warranty part installation and removal in the first and second year of warranty, if you are the original owner of the machine.

Notes on Service:

Sew Santa Barbara offers a 90 day warranty on the repair performed. Machines that are not picked up within 90 days are considered abandoned.

Machines are serviced in the order we receive them. We do our best to estimate the time you can reasonably expect your machine to be serviced. However, this is an estimate and not a guarantee. Servicing your machine may take longer than estimated if the machines ahead of you in the queue take longer than expected, we need to procure parts for your service, or additional problems are found once your machine is on the bench and examined. If additional parts are required or recommended to service your machine, our technician will contact you for your approval before ordering.

What To Bring To a Service

For Sewing Only machines:

  1. The machine

  2. The power cord and foot control

  3. A standard presser foot and stitch plate that does a zig-zag stitch (so that we may check the side-to-side motion of the needle bar)

  4. A bobbin case (so we can balance your bobbin tension)

  5. Any foot or accessory you use when encountering a problem

  6. Leave all other accessories at home like feet, tray, cases, bags, felts and so on.

For Embroidery Machines:

Please bring all of the above, plus:

  1. The embroidery module

  2. The embroidery presser foot

  3. The embroidery bobbin case, if your machine has one

  4. A hoop

NOTE: If you are having a specific problem please bring in samples of the problem. If your problem is from a design on a USB stick, please bring in the USB stick as well.

Having trouble?

Try these first:

Rethreading Your Machine
95% of all machine problems we see are actually not machine problems at all, but related to the machines not being threaded correctly. Take your thread & bobbin out, rethread them carefully, and give it another try.

Replacing Your Needle
Sometimes it’s really hard to tell if a needle is bent or dull, so if you’re having issues, try replacing the needle. Also make sure that the needle you’re using is the correct type for the fabric you’re sewing on.

Different (Newer) Thread
Thread breaking or fraying? Try newer, better quality thread. Thread degrades over time, so if it’s old (or of poor quality), it tends to break easily or give inconsistent thread tensions.

Still Having Trouble? Bring It In!

If you’re still having problems, feel free to bring your machine in to any of our locations anytime and we’ll take a look. No appointments necessary.

Maybe It’s Time For a Tune-Up?

If your machine gets a lot of use (or if it hasn’t been used in years), it might be time for a service. Sewing machines, like cars, need to be serviced, cleaned, and oiled periodically to keep them running smoothly. Most brands recommend servicing your machine every year.
